Although the Madras High Court has lifted the ban on Vishwaroopam, the film has not yet released in Tamil Nadu owing to the Governments hesitation and unwillingness to allow it. The Government has withheld the release of the film stating that it will affect communal harmony.
The film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification and the Boards chairperson, Ms. Leela Samson, has come out in support of the films release. It is absolutely unacceptable. We have certified hundreds and thousands of films...only with Vishwaroopam, you find it has not been done with due diligence? This is an infringement on freedom of expression, she said.
The Governments counsel has declared the Censor Boards clearance to have been given without clearance of mind and called it a scam.
