In the Tambaram-Chengalpattu section, a third line between Singapeumal Koil and Guduvanchery would be ready in this year

The latest news is in this year 2018 a 11 kilometre third line between Singaperumal Koil and Guduvanchery would be commissioned in the Tambaram- Chengalpattu section. This was confirmed by none other than Mr. R.K. Kulshrestha who is the general manager of Southern railways.
Mr Kulshrestha also spoke about how more trains would be operated by the railways and how it would be highly beneficial to the people. He hinted that third and fourth lines between Chennai Beach and Korukkupet and fourth line from Korukkupet to Thiruvottriyur would also be completed in this year 2018. During the 2017-18 the zone earned amount of Rs 7670 crores as gross earnings. It must be noted that there has been increase in growth of 2.1 percent when compared to the last year.
The passenger train earnings have been sensational and this was shown in the amount of Rs 4262 crores and an increase of 6.21 percent when compared to the last year was fabulous. General Manager of Southern Railways further spoke of the earnings of freight and said it was Rs 2739 crores and growth has been superb 4.7 percent when compared to the previous year.
An amount of Rs 100 crores was spent by zonal railways for providing amenities in 2017-18 and this was high when compared to the amount of Rs 71 crores spent in 2016-17.
It is worthy to note that by selling scrap the railways got amount of Rs 230.06 crores in 2017-18 and this amount was higher than the amount got last year and it was Rs 200 crores in 2016-17.
