The news that government as well as civic body have been considering to reclassify the zones belonging to Greater Chennai Corporation has been the talk of the town.

Presently there are 15 zones present in the Greater Chennai Corporation and it is now said that state government would do this reclassification of divisions. According to Mr. Karthikeyan who is the commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation once the local body elections get over this process of reclassification of zones would begin.

He attended the delimitation consultative meeting on Thursday 8th March 2018. There were some demands from the residents belonging to Madhavaram zone to add the division with Manali.

According to the residents of Madhavaram addressing the civic problems would be easier once the civic body adds their division to Manali zone.

Mr Karthikeyan spoke about how during the reclassification of the zones Madhavaram zone would be added to Manali zone. Residents then threw light on how the officials split 183, 184, 185 and 186 to make whole new division and how the authorities must leave the division as it was in the beginning.

Mr. Malik Feroze Khan, delimitation commissioner shared his thoughts and said according to ECI or election commission of India reservation to women as well as scheduled caste would be assured. He then added that the number of reservation wards would remain same after the limitation drive.

The demands of the residents of Sholinganallur zones to add Kannagi Nagar and Ezhil Nagar as single division were rejected by the officials.

According to Mr. Malik Feroze Khan, the population in the Kannagi Nagar division is more than 80,000 now due to large tenements. He further spoke about how this was 100% more than the allowed number. This population would increase even more if Ezhil Nagar is added to Kannagi Nagar and it would be very difficult and not feasible.
