English New Year - Special prayers performed in temples

The advent of the English New Year was celebrated with goodwill, pomp, and spirit all over the world - especially in all major cities in India including Chennai.
Lakhs of enthusiasts gathered in the Chennai Marina and Besant Nagar beaches to welcome the New Year and celebrated the arrival of the New Year with ecstasy.
People greeted each other � as usual, the youngsters celebrated the arrival of the New Year with great cheer � with shouts of `Happy New Year� � they got into their vehicles and took off.
The other major part of the New Year Celebrations was in the Churches where special prayers were performed at midnight to mark the occasion of the New Year. Special prayers and collective divine sacrifice were conducted. Lakhs of devotees had gathered in the churches.
Special prayers are being performed in the temples as well right from the very early morning of the New Year. Large crowds are seen thronging the temples.
The public prayed wholeheartedly for the New Year to be special in their lives and the others� lives as well.
