A Foot Over Bridge (FOB) along with escalator facility, and a sky walk are likely to be set up. The state highways department aims at this move to connect the Tambaram bus stand and railway station.

There are hundreds of commuters making use of the Tambaram railway station every day. Crossing the GST road is way too difficult for all of them because the national highway 5 is over crowded with traffic. This stretch sees a lot of fatal accidents often. So, considering all these, the highways department has called for tenders for constructing the FOB. This will be of the length 240m. The project estimate is Rs 13.7 crore. This project is aimed at changing the bus bay, installing CCTV cameras and setting up ticket counters. On 31st May, the project tender calls got opened. By August this year, construction works are likely to begin, according to highway department sources.

One of the senior officials from the department says the work will be completed within 18 months period. The contractor who wins the tender will also have to maintain the FOB and sky walk for 5 years period.

On either sides of the walk way, there will be escalators. The Indian road congress intends cutting down the total accidents taking place in the country. This construction work is intended in the same lines too.
