The Election Commission has deployed 22 police officers of ranks ranging from additional commissioner of police to inspectors at north Chennai. This follows the pile of complaints received regarding cash and gift distribution to sway people at the RK Nagar by poll campaign. EC sources say that they have been receiving complaints regarding voters being bribed and hence is the change in police and other officials.
Below are some of the notable replacements made:
HM Jayaram who has been the Inspector General of Police, Operations is now deployed as the new additional commissioner of police, law and order, North Chennai, replacing MC Sarangan
N. Baskaran who has been the DIG of Social Justice and Human Rights Commission is now deployed as the Joint Commissioner, L&O, North Chennai, replacing Joshi Nirmal Kumar
Sashank Sai who has been the Deputy Commissioner of Flower Bazaar is now deployed as the DC at Washermanpet instead of A.Jayakumar
Ramar, the DC, Secretary is deployed as DC at Pulianthope, replacing Selvakumar
The law and order assistant commissioner of police at Washermanpet, Tiruvotriyur, Royapuram and MKB Nagar are also replaced
In stations at RK Nagar, Tondiarpet, Korukkupet, New Washermenpet, Kodungaiyur, Kasimedu, and Fishing Harbor, the law and order inspectors and crime inspectors are changed too
There is also a WhatsApp helpline number (9940599465) set up by the city police. This will help people in reporting irregularities or violations at the RK Nagar by poll election.
