26 weeks maternity leave for women

As per the new law, women employees get paid maternity for about 26 weeks whereas the same was 12 weeks earlier.
President Pranab Mukherjee approved the Maternity Benefit Act 2017. They have changed the provisions in this 55 year old law that gives excellent benefit to women employees.
According to the new law, all the establishments that have 50 or more employees need to have creche facility located within prescribed distance. The employer should also permit women to visit the creche four hours in a day.
At the time of appointment, women will be intimated about each and every benefit through writing and electronic ways, as per the new law, says the statute. The employer should also allow women to work from home once she has taken maternity leave.
If the nature of work is such that work from home is not allowed, the employer can permit the woman to do so after taking maternity leave benefit during the period and the woman agrees to it mutually.
