According to recent reports, Aadhar card will soon become mandatory to book online railway tickets. A new system by the Indian Railways is likely.
Booking tickets in bulk and fleecing passengers by touting, fraudulent booking, cases of impersonation, etc can all be prevented by introducing this new Aadhar based system.
Furthermore, there is also going to be the launch of new mobile app in May and this will promote cashless transaction.
While accessing IRCTC ticketing website, one time entry of Aadhar number will be required. Among the key reasons to introduced Aadhar based system is to prevent touting, clarifies a senior official from Railway Ministry.
This however is not the pioneer move to couple Aadhar and railway ticketing. In December last year, Aadhar number was mandated for senior citizens to avail concessions for train tickets.
Speaking about this, the Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC, Dr. A K Manocha said this linking of Aadhar card and train ticket booking for senior citizens is a really beneficial measure for streamlining reservation for people of these categories. Each of the ticket booking in the future will be requiring Aadhar card. The system will bring transparency in ticket reservation by senior citizens and the verification process will be simplified.
