Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has been showing special concern that the public should not struggle due to a shortage of drinking water. He has cautioned that more funds to be allotted to the projects on water distribution. He advised not to waste the funds on unnecessary projects. He warned that in case people decide to stand up in protest against the severe shortage of drinking water, their discontent would be directed the concerned officials.

There is a strong possibility of Chennai and almost the entire Tamil Nadu being subjected to severe drinking water shortage during the ensuing summer. Being aware of this, the Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has been acutely concerned about it. He had allotted Rs. 894 Crores for the projects to drill deep borewells throughout Tamil Nadu, silt removal of the existing wells and other water resources, installing more pumps, distribution of water through water-tank trucks, etc.

These projects will be executed by the local administrations. However, the tenure of the local administrators came to an end in October 2016. However, because of the High Court ban on conducting local elections, they are continuing to function.

The Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has warned that these projects should be taken on a war-footing and completed quickly. Otherwise, stringent action will be taken on any delay.
