Posted on: 07/Dec/2016 10:20:30 AM
Veteran thespian, writer and former parliamentarian Cho Ramaswamy, known for its disdainful satire and brave criticism of political figures  passed away at around 3.58 am at Apollo hospital, where former chief minister J Jayalalithaa battled for life for over two months and lost.

Cho is survived by wife, son and daughter.

Cho, who represented the BJP in the Upper House, was the first person who mooted the idea that Modi should be the prime ministerial candidate, at a time when its tallest leader LK Advani was thought to be the frontrunner for the candidacy.

Born into a family of lawyers, his grandfather Arunachala Iyer, his father Srinivasa Iyer and uncle Matrhubootham were well-known lawyers — Cho also took up the legal profession with some success. For some time, he was also a legal advisor to the TTK group, before plunging fully into theatre. Later, he ventured into films and finally made his mark as a journalist by launching his own magazine.Thuglak magazine and was fearless in criticising the ruling government in the state or at the centre.

Ramaswamy had personal rapport with many politicians in the country.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. at Besant Nagar crematorium.
