In order to regulate Deepavali traffic congestion in Chennai some changes in the transport are being made. With a view ease the mad rush of crowd at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu, where passengers throng in large numbers to go to their native village for the Deepavali festival, the Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation (TNSETC) would be setting up up four temporary bus stands and exit points in and around the city.
The temporary bus stops will come up at MTC Bus Stand in Anna Nagar (West), State Election Commission bus stop opposite CMBT on the 100 ft Road, Arignar Anna Bus Stand at Tambaram Sanatorium (MEPZ) and Poonamallee Bus Stand.
Necessary arrangements were being made to operate special buses on October 26,27 and 28th.
Passengers have been requested to board the TNSETC buses and APSRTC buses proceeding to Andhra Pradesh at Anna Nagar West MTC Bus Stand. Those heading to Puducherry and Cuddalore via East Coast Road and Kancheepuram could board the bus at State Election Commission bus stop on the 100 ft Road.
Passengers to Kumbakkonam and beyond Thanjavur via Tindivanam and Vikravandi could board the bus at Arignar Anna Bus Stand, MEPZ, while those proceeding to Vellore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur and Hosur via Poonamallee could board at Poonamallee bus stand.
The passengers who have made advances reservations for the buses with boarding point at Tambaram and Perungalathur have been requested to board the buses at Urapakkam temporary bus stand.
All the temporary bus terminuses are kept clean. Drinking water facilities and toilets are being arranged for the convenience of passengers.
