Steep price rise of garlic in Tamil Nadu
Large quantities of garlic arrive from the state of Himachal Pradesh for sales in Tamil Nadu. However, during recent times, there has been hoarding of garlic leading to a steep price rise.

Garlic, which was sold at Rs. 320/- per kg last month, is now sold at Rs. 450/- per kg.

China garlic, which was sold at Rs. 100/- per kg, is sold at Rs. Rs. 180/- to Rs. 200/- per kg.

The rural (country) garlic naattu poondu is sold at Rs. 60 Rs. 80/- per kg.

Meanwhile, trader, informed that there has a been a good harvest of rural mountain garlic in the Western Ghats (Hill range). However, this is not being sold - it is being sold and transported as seeds to other state traders, especially from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. So, in spite of a good harvest, there seems to be a shortage of garlic leading to the selling of Kodaikanal hill range grown garlic being sold at Rs. 250/- to Rs. 450/- per kg.
