Biometric family cards in 2012

In a bid to stamp out bogus family cards, the State government will distribute biometric-based smart family cards in 2012-13, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa informed the Assembly on Friday.
Chief minister J Jayalalithaa told the assembly on Friday the validity of the existing cards was December 31, 2011 and they were issued without any mechanism to identify duplication. "With a view to eliminate this problem it has been proposed to replace the existing cards with biometric cards," she said.
