Posted on: 08/Jul/2016 10:09:04 AM
Toyota will soon be offering a petrol variant of its popular Innova Crysta. Since its launch, the 30,000 units of the vehicle have been sold. In an official tweet, Toyota has said that bookings have commenced. The tweet also says that the starting price of the petrol variant will be Rs. 14.7 lakh. A formal launch is expected later this month. Deliveries will begin from August.

Toyota will employ its indigenously developed 2.7 litre unit for its petrol engine. Its predecessor was a 2.0 litre engine that, unfortunately, had to be discontinued due to consistent low demand. Reports do not confirm if there will be an automatic option with the petrol variant.

The Toyota MPV, Innova Crysta, sold 7,259 units in May this year. Sales were at 7,500 units during June. Production of the vehicle went up from 6,000 units in May to 7,800 units in June.

The Innova Crysta was banned from being sold in Delhi NCR and Kerala due to the ban on 2,000 cc or above capacity diesel motors. Since December, this resulted in a loss of more than 800 units. In a bid to offset the loss, Toyota has accelerated its efforts in the in the research and development of the 2.7 litre petrol motor.

Currently, the Innova Crysta comes in 2.4 litre and 2.8 litre Diesel engine versions. They generate 150 PS and 174 PS peak power respectively. The 2.4 litre version has a five speed manual transmission, and the 2.8 litre version has a six speed automatic transmission.
