Posted on: 16/Mar/2016 9:28:12 AM
The Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru has developed an app called Medikoe that will help connect people with healthcare and wellness service providers. The app can instantly alert the user`s five chosen friends and the emergency care unit at the Manipal Hospital in case of an emergency.

The alert is sent using the new Sensor Observation Service or SOS feature on the app. The geographical location will also be sent. In an official statement, the Hospital said, The new SOS (Sensor Observation Service) feature on Medikoe`s app allows the customer to alert five people about the medical emergency including the geo-location, as well as get automatically directed to the first level emergency consultation by Manipal doctors. If need be, they can also get access to an ambulance rushed to the emergency location as fast as possible.

The free app is available on the Google Play Store. Users will need to provide data such as name and age and numbers of five friends. They will also need to activate the SOS button in case of emergency.

Speaking about this, an official from Medikoe said, Living independently in metro cities these days can be risky for older adults, senior citizens or ailing individuals. Moreover, we come across cases of emergencies like road accidents quite often. When we encounter, finding the right number to call in a hurry becomes tough. The Medikoe app aims to fill this gap.

An official from the Manipal Health Enterprises said, By joining hands with a holistic platform like Medikoe, we will be able to provide total monitored emergency medical assistance during any crisis situation. Capitalising on Medikoe`s wide reach, we will also help the patients and community at large, save precious lives during the golden hour.
