Labour Bureau releases Quarterly employment report

The Labour Bureau has released the 25th Quarterly Report on Changes in Employment. According to the report, employment has increased by 5.21 lakhs in eight sectors. These include IT/BPO, automobiles, gems and jewellery and textiles. In  the January - March quarter, handloom, power loom, leather, transport and metal are at 64,000 more than the previous quarter. 

The report shows that an overall increase in employment has been noticed in these sectors during the first three quarters of 2014-15. Compared to the previous quarters, they have increased by 1.82 lakh, 1.58 lakh and 1.17 lakh respectively. In 2013-14, the overall employment increased by 2.76 lakh. The highest increase in employment was in the IT/BPO sector. Employment in this sector increased by 37,000 during January - March. The sector was followed by textiles at 24,000, automobiles at 20,000 and metals at 1,000. 

The sector that experienced the largest decrease in employment was the leather sector at 8,000. This is followed by gem and jewellery at 6,000, transport at 2,000 and handloom/ power loom at 2,000.
