Age relaxed to join Selvamagal Semippu Thittam on the occasion of World Postal Day

Department of Posts has lined up various events as part of the National Postal Week celebrations from October 9 to October 15 starting with World Postal Day on Friday. Some of the other events to be organised include awards to staff members for their contribution towards postal life insurance and rural postal life insurance schemes.
Days will be dedicated to savings bank scheme and customers� grievances meet. Post offices will have special camps to enrol customers in various savings schemes as part of Postal Week.
Mervin Alexander, postmaster general, Chennai City Region while speaking said, Five thousand post offices in India have been linked by core banking system. We are proud to say that among these 5000, 1500 post offices belong to Tamil Nadu. Similarly we have got 1000 polices of Jeevan Jyoti Yojana and Suraksha Bima Yojana respectively. Apart from this we have opened more than 10 lakhs saving account under the Selvamagal Semippu Thittam. We have also relaxed the age limit to join the scheme. Up to 12th December girls who are aged 11 years will be permitted to join the scheme. In order to enhance the usage of postal communication we will be holding a special exhibition at Valluvar Kottam. Letters of exemplary leaders and famous people will be displayed in the exhibition.
