Separate railway reservation counters for women

The chief commercial managers of all railway divisions have been directed by ministry of railways to earmark separate reservation counters for women.
The Railway Board has said that the issue has been considered by the cabinet committee on empowerment of women recently.
The committee has emphasized that at places where separate women`s counters are not possible due to lack of computerization and where separate counters are not in existence for women, female passengers should not be compelled to join the general queues and be attended to separately at the same counter as for general passengers.
The committee has reiterated that at stations facing shortage of manpower, women passengers may be attended separately at the same counter by displaying information board that the women passengers can form a separate queue to buy journey tickets and also platform tickets at the respective counters.
