TRAI to review mobile operators

Posted on: 10/Sep/2015 11:29:30 AM
TRAI says the performance of all mobile operators will be tracked down and a review will take place after 15 days of this tracking. This move is made in order to meet the call drops that are experienced in the recent days. The regulatory board warned these operators that stringent action will be taken upon observing failure of taking necessary steps.

No penalty is thought of to be imposed as of now, says Ravi Shankar Prasad,
Telecom Minister. However, a penalty may be imposed if the situation is seen getting worse. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to have been bothered by the issue of frequent call drops.

On meeting all the CEOs of telecom operators, they were informed that the situation will be kept under track for about fifteen days, said Chairman of TRAI, R S Sharma.

In cities including Mumbai and Delhi, a test drive will take place after 15 days and data will be collected. Presence of any improvement will then be checked, he added.

This meeting was taken part by Gopal Vittal of Bharti Airtel, Gurdeep Singh of Reliance communications, Himanshu Kapania of Idea Cellular, to name a few.
