The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday said adequate efforts had been taken to procure onions from Yeshwanthpur in Karnataka and Lasalgaon in Maharashtra and offer it at subsidized rate in government-run farm fresh outlets. The government said the outlets run by the cooperative department had been selling onions at Rs 55 per kg, though the vegetable cost Rs 70 a kg in the open market.
There are 58 outlets of the cooperative department in the state, including 42 in Chennai and its suburbs.
