Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announces memorial for actor Sivaji Ganesan. Actors laud CM

It was announced by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister that a memorial will be built here honoring legendary actor late Sivaji Ganesan. Legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan, in a career spanning over four decades, had captivated Tamil movie-goers by his brilliant on-screen skills in over 300 films. He passed away in 2001 at the age of 72.

In September 26, 2002, Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had ordered conveyance of 65 cents of land owned by Public Works Department in Adyar to South Indian Film Artists Association for constructing a memorial for Sivaji Ganesan following requests.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had mentioned that so far, the memorial has not been constructed by the association in the land allotted for the purpose and several sections of people and political parties have appealed that the government should build the memorial. Keeping this in mind, , she said, �I am very happy to announce that the memorial will be constructed by the Tamil Nadu government in the land allotted to South Indian Film Artists Association for the memorial.�

Actor and son of legendary film star Sivaji Ganesan, Prabhu, today said he and his family were touched by the announcement of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to construct a memorial in honour of his late father.

Actors Kamal Haasan and Nazar also expressed their "heartfelt thanks" to Jayalalithaa for the announcement

The Nadigar Sangam rebel group comprising actors Vishal, Karthi, Ponvannan and others have welcomed the Chief Minister�s announcement that her government would construct a manimandapam for legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan.
