Southern Railways Achievements This Summer Vacation Season!!

There was a special press release about the achievements of Southern Railways during this summer vacation season.
Southern Railway had run 33 unreserved train during this season which is a record!
With the public planning visits with their families to several places, the waiting lists for the trains swelled. With the aim to reduce this, special trains were run to places where the waiting lists were too long!
Further, 1503 additional coaches were added in different mail & express trains.
Meanwhile, IRTC organised 19 tourism trains for the benefit of the travelling public.
A system of paper-less tickets by booking through cell-phones was introduced in some out-bound trains from Chennai.
In the 1st phase of this facility introduction, around 400 persons per day have procured �paperless� tickets.
55 Automatic ticket dispensing machines have been installed in the divisions under Southern Railway.
New toilet facilities have been introduced for passengers� benefit in Mannarkudi & Karaikkal Railway Stations.
Giant-size LED announcement boards have been installed in Madurai Railway station.
The section between Kovai & Mettupalyam has been electrified and the passenger services started last month.
Incorporating GPS technology, automatic speaker systems and electronic news boards were installed in suburban electric trains.
Train Safety Alarm device has been fitted in 81 suburban trains. When an engine driver tends to bypass the signal, this device will act to stop the engine.This can avert accidents to a large extent.
Electrification of the section Virudhunagar-Tuticorin �Thirunelveali has been completed. With this, Chennai Egmore � Kanyakumari via Villupuram-Trichy-Madurai has been completely electrified.
