Revaluation of ECS for property tax payment

The Chennai Corporation has requested all the residents to indicate about their willingness in the mode of payment of property tax through electronic clearing service. In the city, there are about 11.7 lakh property tax assesses. There is increasing popularity for the payment of tax through handheld machines by tax collectors.
The civic body says the tax is paid through ECS by less than 500 residents. The collection of tax through ECS was temporary stopped. Following this, they have requested all the zonal officers to observe and lit out the willingness of residents to continue paying tax through ECS mode. Not being aware of the payment method through ECS, residents say they find it tough to make payments. Most residents are unaware of the various modes of payment. S. Mangal Raj, the former councilor says before taking the final decision, an awareness should be created by the corporation.
With the use of ECS mode of payment, the corporation will be able to make bulk collection of amounts in property tax payments. One of the officials at the Chennai Corporation said collection of tax through ECS will be resumed after receiving records about the willingness of residents to use the mode.
