When WhatsApp introduced voice calls, users around the world rejoiced. WhatsApp has replaced the traditional SMS platform for users globally. However, the data consumption while using the app for voice calls has caused concern.
A 10 minute call will cost the user anywhere between Rs. 40 and Rs. 50 if they use a regular 3G plan - a much costlier option when compared to regular voice calls. Of course, this does not apply to international calls.
To improve quality and reduce data consumption, WhatsApp has brought out a beta version update. WhatsApp is now trying to cut down on its data consumption via voice calls. Its developers have rolled out the new 2.12.5 beta version for selective iOS users, says a report in Technology Personalised.
