The central government has planned to remove gold jewellery among the list of items in the trade agreements with various countries across the world.
Senior Officials from the ministries Finance & Commerce informed that this step has been taken to curtail large quantities of gold being imported to the country.
They informed that this issue will be discussed with the countries already under the agreement and to obtain approval to remove gold jewellery among the items of trade.
The concessions offered under the Liberal trade Agreements which currently includes gold jewellery is now largely enjoyed by countries like Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
