Posted on: 18/Jun/2015 3:24:24 PM
United Nations General Assembly declared 21st of June as the International Day of Yoga. The practice of yoga date back about 6000 years ago in its history. This helps in integrating the body and mind.

This declaration was made based on the call made by PM Narendra Modi while addressing the UN General Assembly on 27th of April 2014. Speaking in the assembly, he said Yoga is an incomparable gift given by the Indias ancient tradition. This brings in line our mind and body, thought and action and restraint and fulfillment, and stimulates harmony between human beings and nature. He says this is a holistic approach for the health and well being of our body.

Yoga is not about exercising. Instead, its about knowing oneself better. By making changes in lifestyle practices and getting conscious, one can easily deal with changes in climatic conditions. He said we all need to adopt an International Yoga Day.

The 21st of June was selected as international yoga day as it is the longest day of a year and as it carries special significance in most of the world parts.
