Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. introduced Wednesday its Celerio car with a diesel engine and auto gears. Maruti claims the car can travel up to 27.62 kilometers (17.16 miles) to a liter of diesel, which it says is the highest mileage for any car sold in India
The Celerio has a two-cylinder 793-cubic centimeter diesel engine.
The diesel Celerio will be available in four versions with the base model costing 465,393 rupees at dealerships in New Delhi and the top-end model selling for 571,484 rupees.
The diesel engine on the Celerio is the first-ever to be developed by Marutis parent Suzuki Motor Corp. The Japanese auto maker has so far relied on diesel engines from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to power its cars in India.
