A new type of battery developed by chemists at Stanford

Do not decide it to be a kitchen foil on taking a glimpse of how it looks. This is actually a type of aluminum battery that is far ahead of lithium-ion batteries used in our smartphones. The battery was developed by chemists at Stanford. This battery can replace the lithium batteries used in convention. Aluminum batteries used earlier were capable only of 100 recharge cycles.

The newly used aluminum batteries have the aluminum as anode which carries negatively charged electrode in the battery and graphite acts as cathode which is positive. The entire set up is made to sit inside a salt, liquid that is in room temperature. This serves as the electrolyte. This will be able to undergo 7500 recharge cycle with its fullest capacity which are far better than the aluminum batteries used in earlier days. And these are in fact better than the Lithium-ion batteries in use that can suffer up to 1000 recharge cycles.

These are also capable of getting charged at very fast rate, within a minute! These are also robust much than Lithium-ion batteries. Chemists say these new batteries will not also catch fire even if its drilled through.
