The central government has planned to withdraw the LPG cooking gas subsidy for 1 Crore persons who earn more income than the prescribed limit.
The finance ministry has been imitating various measures to reduce the subsidy debt burden of the government.
The latest measure is to impose restrictions for cooking gas & kerosene subsidies.
This proposal is likely to be presented during the coming budget session.
It is understood that the subsidy is to be withdrawn for those who pay 30% income tax.
It is also exploring whether a family of 3/4 members spending over Rs. 5000/- per month for food should be given any subsidy at all.
It is understood that a list is being prepared for those who need subsidy and those who don�t need it. The officials inform that the final decision will be in the hands of the Finance Ministry.
