Heavy rain is expected to occur over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu

Heavy rain battered Tamil Nadu again on Sunday because of the active north-east monsoon over the region.
�Under the influence of low pressure trough over south bay, heavy rain is expected to occur over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in next 48 hours,� a senior weather official said. The low pressure may turn into a depression depending on its movement.
Fishermen were warned not to venture into sea due to strong onshore winds from the north-easterly direction with speed occasionally reaching 55km per hour along the coast.
The latest weather bulletin said Madurai district received a record 13 cm rainfall in the last 24 hours followed by Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district, which received 11 cm rainfall .
