Indian Railways are planning to give licences to private agencies permitting them for reservation of train tickets.
All zonal offices have been informed about this.
Railways will select agencies having all the infrastructure facilitating rail ticket booking.
The selected agents will be provided by Railways with computer connections, ticket printers, modems, etc. Tickets bundles and ink will be given free.
Reservation booking counters in Railways open at 9.00 AM for normal booking & at 10.00 Am for Tatkal booking.
Private agents can book tickets from 9.00 AM. They will be permitted to do Tatkal booking .by 11.00 AM.
They will be permitted to operate booking till 10.00 PM in the night on weekdays and till 8.00 PM on Sundays.
25% of the amount collected for booking service charges will be given as commission to these private agents. This will be reviewed after a year.
The private agents can charge Rs. 1/- extra for ordinary non-booking tickets. Railways will have no share on this charge.
The code number of the private agent, the train fare, and the reservation surcharges will all be printed in every ticket. This is in order to ensure that no extra payments will be charged by the private agents.
This facility will help in reducing the waiting time for the large numbers of people. The agents have welcomed this saying that passengers will be given additional facilities.
Currently, railways are examining this scheme. It is expected to be implemented shortly.
