Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister SP Shanmuganathan while speaking at the assembly said the government would soon start work on nine sub-plans of the larger project to improve amenities at a large number of tourist spots. The project is being carried out with the assistance of Asian Development Bank, at a cost of Rs 66.86 crore. The Tourism Department would also make a brand promotion push; selling pen drives with its own branding and putting up advertisements and stalls in large cities.
Other initiatives that the sector is set to receive are installation of streetlights on the road leading to new yatri nivas in Srirangam, installation of floodlights at Rock Fort in Tiruchirapalli, setting up of health facilities at Viralimalai, upgrade and renovation of facilities surrounding the Venkatesa Perumal Temple in Tiruparkadal, renovation of Hotel Tamil Nadu in Tiruchendur, upgradation of the yatri nivas in Yelagiri to a Hotel Tamil Nadu, purchase of 81 new boats and 32 new out-board motors for TTDC-run boating facilities and purchase of five new luxury buses for TTDC-operated tours.
