IAS Preliminary examinations to be postponed?

Posted on: 28/Jul/2014 2:31:12 PM
The central government is considering the possibilities of postponing the preliminary IAS examinations.

The postponement is considered because of the protests by the students over the change in the course syllabus..

Hence, the preliminary IAS exams, which were scheduled on 24th August, are likely to be postponed.

This issue was discussed in yesterdays meeting conducted under the in leadership of Home Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh in Delhi. Minister Arun Jaitley, State Minister Jitender Singh, and the UPSC Chairman participated in the meeting.

The Home Minister met the Prime Minister yesterday and explained the position.

IAS & IPS examinations are conducted in 3 stages preliminary Stage, Critical stage, and the interview stage.

The preliminary stage examination consists of 2 question papers (CSAT#1 & CSAT#2) each with maximum 200 marks.

CSAT#2 includes essay-writing, basic mathematics, solving problems, the ability to understand information, and  essay-writing in English (equivalent to 10th Standard level).

The exam focus is based more on English knowledge. This aspect is found to be difficult for the rural students. Hence, they had protested asking for a revision in the syllabus.
