The counseling taking place in the city for engineering admission has an interesting information right in the first two days of it. Almost one-third of the candidates who got their admission in engineering colleges in the first two days of counseling in Tamil Nadu seem to be the first-generation graduates. Over 5333 candidates took technical courses in the state. Out of this count, 1699 are first in their whole family to step into a college.
Before 10 years, the government decided to abolish the method of taking candidates for engineering admission via Common Entrance Test (CET). With this, engineering admission got solely dependent on the students class-12 mark. Right from when this change occurred, the total number of engineering graduates from rural areas is increasing. The same got proved this year with the one-third population of engineering graduates being of first-generation.
