Habitually, the Southwest monsoon starts by May 20. During this year, the Southwest monsoon starts by May 17, which is three days well before comparing to the past scenarios, say Regional Meteorological Department officials.
By May 17, both the South Andaman Sea and Southwest Bay of Bengal will receive its usual monsoon, info given by the meteorological department.
