Chennai is Prudent from Water Tragedy!

At least for a few months ahead, Chennaiites may tap down from water dearth. Ample possessions from Veeranam tank in Cuddalore district and Krishna water from Andhra will show its lending hand for an uphold water supply on standby days.

Due to less rain, the ground water level has tumble to a depth of only 5 meters in the city. Thus make the people to wholly depend on the Metrowater supply.

An official of the Water Resources Department (WRD) states that, probably the water scarcity will be temporarily managed by the existing water resources and by Krishna river water till August. This news gives a soothing relief to the public who has been in fear of water shortage in this summer season.

Many city reservoirs, which has been in the perilous state for several months, has how got a stable flow of water from Krishna river.

Poondi reservoir, which is the chief storage hub, is now acquiring 370 cubic feet per second of water (cusec).  And from subsequent weeks, the official says that they are expecting nearly 500 cusecs of water in Poondi reservoir.

From Veeranam tank, a 230-km-long- conduit carries about 180 million litres of water a day (MLD) to Chennai.

Once the reservoirs attained the target of 7000 mcft, Chennai Metrowater plans to persist to supply 610 MLD on alternative days.
