The education department is arranging to ensure the free bus passes to be available to the students on the day of reopening of their schools & colleges. Several steps are being taken to avoid time delays.
For all students studying in the 1st Standard to 12th standard in the Government-aided schools, free bus passes are given to facilitate travelling from & to schools. Around 14,00,000 students benefit by this scheme. The passes can be used on school working days. They must be in the school uniform. The passes cannot be used during vacations.
Usually, the schools reopen by the 1st week of June after the summer vacation. The students will then apply for the bus passes. The applications will be checked and sent to the transport authorities. It will take up to 3rd week of July for the new bus passes to be issued. Sometimes, it may take even more time in some schools.
This year, the education department has decided to take steps to arrange the bus passes to be made available to the students on the reopening day itself.
All primary education officers have been instructed to make a district-wise list of the students and send to NSS Joint Director before 30th April. District Education Officers have been instructed to get the free bus applications processed in the transport offices.
