final board exam will continue in the next year.

continue or not.

was introduced for Standards 1 to 8 in order to reduce the burden of carrying
several books & notebooks.

was introduced for 9th standard in the year 2014. It was
announced that this will be followed for the 10th Standard for
the academic year2014-15.
Trimemester system
divides the academic year into 3 sections. The 1st section is
between July & September. The 2nd section is between
October & December. The 3rd section is between January
& April.
Earlier, there were
4 books for Standards 1 & 2. There were 5 books for the Standards 2 to 5.
In the trimester system, the books for each subject were divided into 3
sections. These sections were bound together to facilitate the students to
carry only 1 or 2 books.
Along with
trimester system, collective grading system has also been introduced. The
2 terminal exams will carry a total of 40% and the final exam will carry 60%.
Marks are replaced by grades.
This will help
monitor the students’ performance throughout the academic year and also will
reduce the tension during the final exams.
10th standard
There were doubts
whether the board exams will be conducted if trimester system was introduced.
There was extensive discussion on this issue by the education department
officials.
The headmasters,
principals, and the teachers raised objection to this change. They insisted on
the continuation of board exams.
The education
department officials also examined the possibility of following the 2 semester
system as practiced by the CBSE curriculum. The second semester exam was to be
considered as the board exam. They also submitted a recommendation to this effect.
Following this, Tamil Nadu government has ordered to continue the present
system for 10th Standard.
So, the Department
of school education has sent orders to all education officers that trimester system will not be introduced
in the next academic year.
It has also instructed to print the same set of books currently in use for the 10th standard.
