Chennai Metro � Shenoy Nagar-Koyambedu route to open by end 2015
The Chennai Metro Rail will begin train services on the five km stretch between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar by the end of 2015.
The entire underground stretch of metro in the city will be completed by the end of 2016.
The tunnelling work from Anna Tower to Tirumangalam will start in 2 months. Tunnelling equipment is being shifted.
The tunnel would end after the VeeCare Hospital in Tirumangalam. A ramp will be built to connect it to the elevated stretch.
The tunnelling project was very challenging. A lot of problems were encountered. The initial schedule was to complete 900 metres tunnelling in 6 months. However, it took 18 months.
