Chennai Corporation decides to put up banners on property tax defaulters premises

The Chennai Corporation has decided to put up banners on the firms that have not paid property tax. The Chennai Corporation collects property tax from owners of own house and builders. This is one of the most important revenue for Chennai Corporation. But the majority of people evade this. The Chennai Corporation is taking various steps to collect this tax.
As a part of this, the Chennai Corporation has decided to put up posters and banners in the premises of the tax defaulters.
One of the Chennai Corporation official has mentioned, � In the year 2013- 2014 till 14th February, Rs 340 Crores towards property tax was collected. This year target is Rs 550 Crores. But this could not be achieved. Many are evading this tax. Especially big firms and educational institutions are having huge balances to pay. Now efforts are being taken to collect the tax from these institutions and firms.�
