Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa hikes the salary of TNEB Staff

As a new year gift the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa presented the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board staff a Rs 777 crore pay hike, with retrospective effect from December 1, 2011. The increments will be in force for four years till November 30, 2015.
 
The move, which benefits as many as 80,980 staff of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) Limited, comprising 70,820 workers and 10,160 officers, will cost the State Rs 252 crore a year, while payment of arrears would cost Rs 525 crore. The CM, in a statement, said the expense would be met from TANGEDCO’s funds.
 
Every employee of the TANGEDCO will get a seven per cent hike in scale of pay and grade pay, which translates into individual increments ranging from Rs 700 to Rs 13,160 a month.
