Tamil Nadu Police Academy to buy three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Anna University

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at a conference of District Collectors and Police Officers last year had announced that she will allocate Rs 95 lakh to the Tamil Nadu Police Academy to purchase three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Anna University. Accordingly the State Government has sanctioned the amount.
The Academy and the University would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard.UAVs are being deployed by law enforcement agencies for operational purposes, such as crowd management, route or area surveillance and jungle operations. The idea now is to use it for law and order control.UAVs were used for crowd control in Paramakudi, during annual anniversary of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran and also during Karthigai Deepam.
