Tamil Nadu Orders Private Schools to Publicly Display Government-Approved Fee Structure

The Tamil Nadu State Information Commission has directed that all private schools across the state must publicly display the government-approved fee structure on their notice boards and admission forms.

The order was issued to ensure greater transparency in school fee collection and to help parents clearly understand the approved fees for each class during admissions.

The commission also instructed that:

- Fee details must be displayed prominently on school premises

- Class-wise fees should be printed in student admission application forms

- Private school authorities must comply and submit a report by June 15

The directive came after a petitioner from Coimbatore sought information regarding approved fee structures under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The commission criticized education officials for delaying the information for over two years and ordered compensation to the petitioner for the mental distress caused by the delay.

Authorities have also been asked to explain administrative lapses related to the handling of the RTI application.
