Tamil Nadu Voter List Update: January 30 Is the Last Day to Add Names
The extended deadline to add names to the voter list in Tamil Nadu ends on Friday, January 30, according to the Election Commission. Across the State, over 16 lakh applications have been received so far for inclusion, correction, and migration-related updates in the electoral rolls.
The Special Summary Revision of the voter list, which began on November 4, led to the deletion of 97.38 lakh names in the draft list released on December 19. This reduced the total number of voters in Tamil Nadu from 6.41 crore to 5.43 crore. Officials stated that the deletions included migrated voters, deceased persons, and duplicate entries.
Eligible citizens who have completed 18 years of age and those whose names were removed from the draft list were allowed to apply for inclusion using Form 6, while Form 8 was used for corrections and address changes. Special camps were also conducted on weekends to facilitate voter registration.
Following requests from political parties, the Election Commission extended the deadline to January 30. After verification of all applications, the final voter list will be published on February 17.
