Gold prices in Chennai have reached a record high, rising sharply in both morning and evening trading sessions. The continuous increase has come as a shock to people planning to buy gold for weddings and other auspicious occasions.
On Tuesday, gold prices surged further, touching a new historic peak. The price of gold increased by ₹275 per gram, taking the rate to ₹15,025 per gram. The price of 22-carat gold (one sovereign) rose by ₹2,200, reaching ₹1,20,200, marking the highest-ever level in Chennai’s retail market.
Silver prices also climbed in line with gold. The price of silver increased by ₹10 per gram, with one gram priced at ₹375, while bar silver is being sold at ₹3.75 lakh.
