Railway Board Grants Final Approval for Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro Rail Service
The Railway Board has granted final approval for the operation of the Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro Rail service, paving the way for the launch of metro train services on this corridor in Chennai.
Following the approval, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited is expected to commence metro services on the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch from February. The corridor spans 15.8 kilometres and forms a key part of Chennai’s expanding metro network.
Successful Trial Runs Completed
Trial runs on this metro route were conducted recently and were reported to be successful, meeting all required safety and operational standards. With the Railway Board’s clearance now in place, the corridor is expected to be opened for public use soon.
The launch of the Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro line is expected to significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion, and improve connectivity between western and central parts of Chennai.
