Orange Alert for Very Heavy Rain in 7 Districts Including Tiruvallur & Chengalpattu
The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Warning for very heavy rain in 7 districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Nilgiris and Coimbatore today.
As Cyclone Titva has weakened and continues to hover near the Chennai coast, continuous heavy rain has been lashing Chennai and its suburbs for the past 48 hours.
In addition to the orange alert, a Yellow Warning for heavy rain has been issued for Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Dharmapuri, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts.
Meanwhile, heavy rain is expected tomorrow (Dec. 4) in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts, according to the department.
It is noteworthy that independent weather experts have stated that the heavy rain caused by the weakened Titva cyclone in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts is likely to subside by tonight.
