Posted on: 02/Dec/2025 12:42:40 PM

The North East Monsoon has intensified across Tamil Nadu, and Cyclone Ditwah, which formed over the Bay of Bengal and caused widespread heavy rainfall in the southern and delta districts, has now weakened into a Deep Depression near Chennai. As a result, the city has been experiencing continuous heavy rain for the past 24 hours.

Tamil Nadu Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran visited the State Emergency Operation Centre at Ezhilagam, Chepauk, Chennai, to review the impact and preparedness measures related to the system.

Landfall Location & Rainfall Details

Speaking to the media, the Minister said the weakened system is currently located 40 km southeast of Chennai. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent rain until tomorrow morning.
Rainfall recorded in 24 hours:

Ennore – 26 cm
Parimunai – 25 cm
Ice House – 20 cm

He added that the low-pressure area is likely to weaken further and cross the coast near Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram). Accordingly, all district administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert, and rescue and disaster response teams are actively deployed in vulnerable areas.
