Northeast Monsoon Intensifies in Tamil Nadu; Heavy Rain Forecast Till Nov 22
The northeast monsoon has begun to intensify again across Tamil Nadu, with the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal expected to move slowly in a west-northwest direction. As a result, heavy rainfall is likely in several districts until November 22.

According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in parts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Karaikal.
Very Heavy Rain in 7 Districts; Heavy Rain in 8 Districts
Heavy rain is also likely at one or two places in Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Puducherry.

Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning:
Tiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Perambalur.
Light rain:
Ranipet, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari.

The city is likely to experience cloudy skies today. Moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning is expected in some areas, with a few locations possibly receiving heavy downpours.

Minimum temperature: 25°C
Commuters, including school, college and office goers, are advised to exercise caution during the morning hours. So far, Chennai has experienced only scattered showers with no heavy rainfall.
Holiday Possibility for Schools and Colleges
With forecasts indicating increased rainfall in northern districts, officials are assessing the weather situation closely. Depending on rain intensity, announcements of school and college holidays in northern and delta districts may be issued later today.

On November 21 and 22, heavy rain is likely in 17 districts, including:
Ariyalur, Sivaganga, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur.
