Thunderstorms Likely in More Tamil Nadu Districts Today

Posted on: 05/Nov/2025 10:45:16 AM

During the North-East Monsoon, widespread rainfall usually arrives with low-pressure systems. However, this year, rains are currently driven by daytime heating. For the past two days, Chennai (KTCC) has been witnessing evening thunderstorms following hot daytime conditions.

These heat-triggered thunderstorms will continue to be hit-or-miss, bringing short but intense spells in some areas. A few locations may receive isolated heavy rainfall for about an hour, but these will not be widespread like monsoon system rains.

Districts Likely to Receive Rains Today

Thunderstorm activity is expected in many regions including:

Delta districts: Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Trichy, Karaikal

Central TN: Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur

Northern TN: Kallakurichi, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri

Southern TN: Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Dindigul

Western TN: Namakkal, Salem, Erode, KTCC (Chennai Region)

Coimbatore & Nilgiris: Isolated spells likely

Bangalore: Chances of evening rain

Chennai (KTCC): Thunderstorms for the Next 3 Days

Chennai is set to receive here-and-there thunderstorms over the next three days, similar to yesterday. Some areas will get showers while others may remain dry.

However, a significant break in rainfall is expected afterward, as MJO is currently unfavorable, and supportive weather signals are weak.

Outlook for November

A low-pressure area may form in the last week of November in the Bay of Bengal.

Still, November rainfall for Tamil Nadu is expected to be below average, according to early indications.
